Soup Kitchen, Prison & Hospital Ministries
Community Outreach
Healing Wings Mozambique has always advocated the support and encouragement of anyone in need, regardless of what the need may be. To that end, we engage in regular outreaches in the village of Bela Vista, by visiting and praying with people in hospital and prison. We also run a feeding programme which effectively supplies the prisoners with what is often their only meal for the day. This meal consists of a hearty soup and bread which we deliver daily and which the prisoners are always very grateful for. Wherever possible, we try to encourage those in hospital with songs and by praying with them. We further assist the local community by providing basic health care, medical advise, and making sure that people receive adequate medical treatment when they are ill. Due to a high rate of HIV/Aids infection combined with numerous other factors such as the tropical climate, malnutrition and poor hygiene, the small and insufficient hospital in Bela Vista is understaffed and patients have little hope for recovery. Many end up there and simply wait for death. We visit these people, helping where possible and lending support for the families. In order the combat poor hygiene in the area, years ago Healing Wings arranged the sinking of a borehole to ensure that the people have access to clean, safe running water.
